Being a DONA certified Doula in Utah means staying up to date on my breastfeeding knowledge. Last Saturday I took a 3.5 hour course on the very subject and wanted to share a few tidbits of fun information on the subject.
- A mother who had a doula at her birth is 30% more likely to still be breastfeeding at 6 weeks postpartum.
- Michael Jordan was breastfed until he was 3 years old!
- Mom and baby being skin to skin in the first hour after birth is HUGELY important to the success of mom and baby’s ability to nurse.
- On the first day of life baby only needs 1/4 ounce (size of a shooter marble) of colostrum at each feeding.
- Sagging breasts are caused by pregnancy hormones and not by breastfeeding.
- Breastfeeding reduces your chances of getting breast cancer… Heck yeah!
This recent magazine cover has been creating quite the commotion. What do you think of it?
